In Bangladesh's socio-economic development efforts, youth development activities determine the pace of development of this country.Proper education and appropriate training are needed for the proper development of initiative and innovative capacity of the youth and its best utilization in the field of work.The project titled “Establishment of National Youth Center” started in 1998 on common land and infrastructure of Youth Training Center in Savarsh under Directorate of Youth Development. After the end of the project period in 2006, various activities of the National Youth Center continued on a limited basis till February 2015 with funds received from the bulk allocation.In December 2014, on the special consideration of the then Prime Minister, the center along with manpower was transferred to the revenue sector.The project entitled “Strengthening and Modernization of National Youth Centers” was adopted in March 2015 with the aim of modernizing and dynamizing the activities of National Youth Centers.The project was completed in June 2021. It is to be noted that the 'National Institute of Youth Development Act, 2018' was enacted for the purpose of providing research, higher education and training for the purpose of empowering the potential youth of the country through training and motivation and engaging the youth in the overall development and constructive activities of the country and the nation on a large scale.National Youth Development Institute was established as per Section-03 of this Act.A total of 8864 young men and women have been trained since its inception.Arrangements have been made to organize short courses in 27 subjects including 06 months duration diploma course in 03 subjects.Activities are in progress to establish the institute as a “Centre of Excellence”.
